Pain crisis at night time

Hey warriors. I’m Ezekiel, a 21 year old Nigerian living with SCD and I’ve always wondered if anyone else who’s got SCD suffers from midnight crisis or is it just me? 98% of my crisis happens at night and I’m always woken up from my sleep with severe crisis. Is this normal?

  1. mine as well. And it's so hard. Sometimes am alone, no body to help out. But I just give thanks that I always pull through

    1. bro, I fight through it. It's so unbearable, but I have nothing to do but fight.

    2. I respect your strength and courage.

  2. this is common for a lot of patients with SCD. My hematologist shared that a vaso-occlusive crisis tends to occur at night because we're more distracted during the day and can often push through acute pain. You also need to remember that at night, your body is more relaxed and in a restful state so blood flow slows down (and the cells quickly start to stick together) because your heart isn't working as hard. During the day, you're exerting energy and moving around so blood is constantly being pumped around the body.

    1. Hello, I'm Oluwatobi. I am also a Nigerian with SCD. Yes, I do get midnight crises but it's often. Most of my crises are random it could be in morning, afternoon or night, but there's one thing I know for sure, most of my crises are triggered by menstruation

      1. nice to see I’m not alone. And I’m so sorry about your menstrual triggered crisis. I can’t imagine going through menstrual cramps and a crisis simultaneously. I’m sorry

      2. glad I’m finally getting some closure on this matter. Thany you very much
