New FDA treatment for SCD

The US FDA approved the first cell-based gene therapies for the treatment of sickle cell disease (SCD) in patients 12 years and older this month. Have you heard? What are your feelings?

  1. Yes, I heard about it! I'm thrilled and hopeful for patients. This breakthrough could significantly improve lives and treatment outcomes for those with sickle cell disease.

    1. Hey everyone a new medicine is soon going to be available through NHS for those with sickle cell anaemia called voxelotor. This looks promising .

      1. thanks to technology i hope it will be eliminating out of the world but remind the cost!

        1. Cost is definitely a factor many struggle with, you're not alone there. How are you doing today?? Sending positive vibes your way! -Beth (Team Member)

      2. I read it cautiously after my experience with another widely published best thing since slice bread - Crizanlizumab. I was on it for 6 months side effect was horrible nausea and crisis - apparently the sample group were sufferers with non complicated SCD. So with I quietly looked at not only the cost which I do not know how many can afford but the side effects and also the preparation before the ‘cure’. Again the trail sample group was 44 - why do they always use such a small group? Am not jumping and dancing yet.
