Thank you so much. I have reached out to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis Tennessee and I spoke to the researchers department. Hopefully they can help with answers. 
You must be very worried about your granddaughter. A fever is usually a sign of an infection, and several complications of sickle cell disease can lead to a fever.
